Finding the right place to stay while on tour or working on a production is about more than just a bed, it’s about finding a space that fits your lifestyle.
To help you book with confidence, we’ve broken down our accommodation types so you know exactly what to expect when you arrive at your Digs.
The following information is guidance, and every Digs listing is unique. We always recommend reading the description prior to placing a booking request
Living with Host
A "home away from home" experience.
In this setup, you are renting a spare room in the Host’s primary residence. You’ll have your own private bedroom, but you’ll be sharing the "heart of the home" with the person who lives there.
- Your Space: A private bedroom.
- Common Areas: You’ll typically share the kitchen, bathroom, and sometimes the living room with the Host.
- Good to Know: This is great for those who enjoy a bit of social interaction or local advice. Every Host is different. Some love a post-show chat over tea, while others prefer to give you total quiet.
Shared
Living with a mix of fellow professionals or long-term tenants.
The Host does not live on-site, but they rent out multiple rooms within the property. You might be sharing the house with other theater pros, students, or local workers.
- Your Space: A private bedroom.
- Common Areas: All communal spaces (kitchen, lounge, bathrooms) are shared with the other residents.
- Good to Know: This is a more independent setup than living with a Host, but you won't be alone in the house. It’s perfect if you like a communal atmosphere but prefer not to live in someone else’s personal space.
Self-Contained
Privacy and independence.
This is your own private area. You do not share any internal living space with anyone else. This category includes studio apartments, annexes with their own entrances, or entire houses.
- Your Space: You have your own kitchen, bathroom, and living area.
- Common Areas: None (we ask Hosts to stipulate any shared aspects of their self contained listings in their description).
- Good to Know: Ideal for those who need total quiet to rest between shows or simply prefer their own company.
B&B / Guesthouse
A professional, managed hospitality experience.
These are licensed businesses designed specifically for Guests. There is usually a clear divide between "Guest areas" and "staff areas."
- Your Space: A private room.
- Service Level: Expect a professional level of cleanliness and usually a breakfast option. A staff member or Host is typically available on-site during the day.
- Good to Know: Choose this if you want the reliability of a professional service with a more personal touch than a large hotel.
Hotel
Standardised, 24/7 service.
A commercial or boutique hotel offering high-end amenities and professional staff.
- Your Space: A standard hotel room.
- Service Level: Usually includes 24-hour reception, daily professional cleaning, and access to on-site facilities like gyms or restaurants.
- Good to Know: Best for those who want a consistent, "hands-off" experience with full service at any hour.
